Back Working

Note: this blog post was originally posted on lambtracker.com and has been moved here for preservation. Some information may be outdated.

It’s been a long time since I posted. For the last couple of years, we’ve been using LambTracker® for all of our sheep data tracking. Lots of things need improvement, and my list of enhancements I want to implement gets longer every day, but overall, it works well. Other projects took priority for a while, so nothing much was done to LambTracker® to change basic functions. I developed some workflow workarounds to cover the major bugs, and while the enhancements were nice, they weren’t critical.

Well, that has changed now.

Our first major change is that I’ve moved the system from GitHub to GitLab. With Microsoft buying GitHub, I could not stay there. So, all new work will be posted to my GitLab instead.

The latest big feature addition is that we now have a Bluetooth scale that can send weight data directly to LambTracker®. It’s still in work – today is the first day the new code will encounter sheep, as part of yearly evaluations – but it worked well during routine sheep management tasks.
