What We Do
We will never charge for AnimalTrakker® software as deployed. How, then, do we keep AnimalTrakker® going if we won’t monetize our software? Rest assured, we don’t sell your data – we don’t even collect it! We value your privacy, and we will never see any data that you don’t send us to manage or troubleshoot on your behalf.
Our first method of earning money involves selling hardware preloaded with AnimalTrakker® software. While this hardware is completely optional, it’ll give you a head start on setting up your flock management system. We also sell EID readers and other peripherals that integrate with the system.
Our second method is data conversion. We can help you convert your existing animal management system to AnimalTrakker®. AnimalTrakker® is not the only animal management system on the market, and converting the important data contained in your system to AnimalTrakker® may not be easy or straightforward. Our capable team can look at your individual case and give you a custom conversion quote.
Our third method is customization. We can work with you one-on-one to customize your AnimalTrakker® system to your specific needs. For example, we can work with you to develop a combined desktop-registry package for the registrar. We can also set up an online breeder portal to facilitate the collection and tracking of births, registrations, transfers, and deaths. We can manage your rare breed registry site for you as part of this package as well.
Finally, if you want extra features added to AnimalTrakker® on an accelerated timeline, we can work with you to make it happen. Eventually, all of these software changes will roll into the master software and become available to everyone, but if you need a feature right away, just let us know!
And finally, we accept good-old-fashioned donations. If you like AnimalTrakker® and our mission, consider supporting our efforts. It’s always optional and always appreciated.

Community Support
We’re constantly working to bring more people and more features to AnimalTrakker®. Because we’re open-source, you can help us make our system better, too. We welcome community support, and you can access GitLab repositories of our code here: GitLab
The Importance of Being Open Source
Proprietary software is like a car with a sealed engine compartment. There’s no repair manual, and you can’t access the internal components to troubleshoot them. If you run into an issue or the car breaks down, all you can do is take it to the dealer to get it serviced. All the power stays in the hands of the manufacturer, and this power allows them to do all sorts of things that we don’t like, such as eliminating market competition, planning obsolescence, setting egregious prices, and more.
Open Source is like “Right to Repair” but with software. You have the repair manual (in this case, the source code), but you may need the help of a professional mechanic if you don’t have experience working on cars. You can choose to hire a mechanic yourself, learn to fix it on your own, or consult the manufacturer (us) for help. You can even tune your “vehicle” and add aftermarket parts if you want it to do something special. All the tools and information that you need to work on your system are available and freely provided.
The Right to Repair movement has been growing in recent years, and we’ve seen small victories against the likes of Apple, John Deere, and more. However, there’s still a long way to go. By supporting AnimalTrakker and other organizations like us who remain open source, you’re helping to support the Right to Repair movement and pushing back against proprietary control.
