By midway through 2013, we’d researched EID thoroughly, and it was clear that we’d eventually need to implement it for tracking. Unfortunately, the EID tags available in the US at the time were too big for our sheep’s ears, and they were expensive to boot.
We did more research and came across Shearwell’s tags. They weren’t approved in the US as official EID tags yet, but they would be soon. I was able to buy the US farm versions at the time, and that was good enough temporarily.
Since our flock is also UK registered, I was able to get a few UK official Shearwell tags to try out, too. The ewe below has an official flag tag on her right ear, plus two different EID tags, one UK official and one farm tag for testing. The next picture is a set of Shearwell tags, ready to test.
