Lambing Lull

Note: this blog post was originally posted on lambtracker.com and has been moved here for preservation. Some information may be outdated.

We are now in the lull between batches of lambs. We had nine ewes left to go, but we’re down to eight now.

My focus is shifting to working on the desktop and cleaning up the mobile application.

The overall design of the desktop is progressing well. I’ve been writing out a bunch of different structures, plus doing bench testing and test scenarios. I think I’m finally getting a handle on what will work best to allow for future expansion. I’m also working on the NSIP data collection sections. Most of the data should be collected as part of normal sheep management, but the key is alerting the user to missing data. I also need to format the data for delivery to LambPlan in Australia. That task has to be done on the desktop side.

I’ve begun looking through LambTracker® Mobile and pulling out common code to go into a Utilities class. I’m trying to clean up the admittedly rather messy structures in there now. It’s slow going, as I usually manage to break something with each section I pull out.

There isn’t much activity on the GitHub site, as I’m not pushing changes until I can test them more.
